The Children's Foundation was founded by Ron Joyce, Co-Founder of Tim Hortons, in honour of his friend and National Hockey League star, Tim Horton, who died in a car accident in 1974. Since 1975, the Foundation has offered thousands of children from across Canada and parts of the United States a camping adventure they'll never forget.

Funding for the Children's Foundation camps comes primarily from donations from individual Tim Hortons store owners, from the TDL Group Corp., from many valued suppliers and from public donations collected through counter coin boxes located year round at every Tim Hortons outlet. The Foundation's largest single fundraiser is Camp Day, when Tim Hortons store owners donate their entire coffee sales and public donations from the 24-hour period to the Foundation.

Please be advised that the Tim Horton Children's Foundation does NOT do door-to-door solicitation to raise money. If you are approached by someone at your home who is claiming to be collecting for the Tim Horton Children's Foundation, please decline and notify the police.

To make a donation, please send your cheque or Money Order, payable to the Tim Horton Children's Foundation, to the address below or donate online by clicking on the CanadaHelps.org button (below). Tax Receipts for charitable donations of $10 or more are issued on request.

Tim Hortons store owners ask local community organizations who work with economically disadvantaged children, between the ages of 9 and 12, to refer children who meet the criteria. All children who attend our camps are specially selected and referred by these local organizations. Unlike most camps, parents don't apply directly to send their children to a Tim Horton camp. If you are a parent wanting your children to be involved, you can contact your local school or youth-serving organization to see if they have been asked by a Tim Hortons store owner to refer a child to camp.

Yes, certain groups may be eligible to attend one of our camps at no charge. Community groups or schools that work with economically disadvantaged children and youth may apply for full sponsorship to attend one of our camps during the summer months through our Day Camp Program or during the year from September to May through our Community Sponsorship Program. To obtain an application package for either of these programs, please contact the specific camp.

The Children's Foundation is fortunate to receive the financial support of many organizations and individuals who host local fundraising events to benefit the Foundation. Groups or individuals wanting to support the Foundation are asked to fill out our 3rd Party Fundraising Event Proposal Form. The proposal must be submitted for approval by fax, mail or email at least 16 weeks prior to the event. Thank you for your generous intentions!

The Tim Horton Children's Foundation is a charitable organization that receives generous donations from Tim Hortons store owners, suppliers, the TDL Group Corp. (operators of Tim Hortons), and the community. All the funds raised are used to operate our six camps and to provide over 10,000 children every year with a top-quality camp experience. There are no surplus funds available for distribution to other charitable organizations.
