Success Stories

Since 2005, Tim Hortons Owners have recognized store employees - as well as their children and grandchildren -who give back to the community. 220 Tim Hortons Scholarships are awarded each year throughout Canada and the United States.

Find out how the Tim Hortons Scholarship Program has really contributed to the personal and professional success of these past recipients.

I won the scholarship back in 2007. When I applied I never expected to be a recipient of such an award, but I always had the full support of coworkers especially my Manager and Store Owner. I was told I had won and since that day I knew that if I kept focused and determined, I could accomplish anything I put my mind to, including getting hired by the Police force. Tim Hortons has made a major impact on my life, especially in the five years I worked there and because of the scholarship I won. I haven't and nor will I ever forget everything that was done for me during my time there. I still remain in contact with the store and all those who help to make it what it is. I'd do anything for the company and that store because it has helped shape me into the person I am today and for that reason I'm always going to be grateful.

In 2006 my mother was working at Tim Hortons, she was informed that I could apply for the Tim Hortons Scholarship program and that I was eligible because she worked there. This was wonderful news for my family and I. I remember when my mom called me from work to tell me I had won; she was crying she was so happy and I did the same, all I could feel was relief and happiness that I had won. I went in and thanked the Owners for the opportunity. Now, two and half years later I am a College graduate with a Social Service Worker diploma and the Tim Hortons Scholarship played a big role in my accomplishment. Once again I would like to thank everyone involved with the Tim Hortons Scholarship for offering this great opportunity to their employees and their family members.

I'm currently a senior in University, and working at a Medical Center as a business intern. I love my job, and how close my dreams are coming into reality; with the Tim Hortons Scholarship I had the opportunity of furthering my education and confidence. Tim Hortons and this very scholarship have been wonderful to me. I love Tim Hortons, and still find time to work there one day a week during my busy life, because I love the atmosphere and the people. I've grown from a teenager into an adult that is fulfilling her dreams, and I have Tim Hortons to thank for that. After I finish my bachelor's degree I have decided that I will be going after my Master's, and before I would have never thought that would be possible. Thank you for helping me with my dreams!

The Store Owners called me to tell me I had won!!! I was so excited.  I had been accepted to College for the fall of 2006 to study Early Childhood Education. I couldn't wait and that summer after high school, I got a job in my field at a daycare, and in order to maintain my eligibility I continued to work evenings and weekends at Tim Hortons.  On a Saturday near the end of August, my friend  who is also the Store Owners' son, called and asked for my mother,  that afternoon my mother and I went to the store and there waiting for me were the Store Owners, Managers, and lots of staff. They had balloons and flowers for me, along with a giant cheque for $1,000.  We took pictures and talked about what I was going to do in the fall. It was great. I have now completed two years at college; the scholarship was used to pay for my first year's tuition.

My name is Michelle and I was a Tim Hortons Scholarship recipient in 2006.  I am now working as a trainee in a 4-star hotel as an Assistant Maître D.  Thanks to the scholarship I received, I was able to pursue my studies in hotel and food services management, and still have time to explore other areas of the restaurant business, all the while still being involved with my community.  My time with the Tim Hortons team taught me a lot and, in later jobs, I used that knowledge to benefit my other work teams.

When I first applied for the Tim Hortons Scholarship I was new to Canada and had done very little volunteering here. To my pleasant surprise a few months later, I WON! I did not apply last year because I thought one could win this scholarship only once. This is not true. So, I made my second attempt this year with more volunteer work and confidence. I spent more time writing and revising my essay, carefully following the competition guidelines. I was successful again. These scholarships helped me fund my continuing education requirements to become a Pharmacy Technician. I think the selection process is very fair. It is all about trying until you succeed.
